Dresses Galore!!

Wedding dresses that is! God, just two years ago I was with my dear and wonderful friends in high school going shopping for prom dresses, and in another two years I will be getting married!!!

It was a very exhausting day considering we only went to two bridal shops and I tried on a total of about 6 dresses I think. Getting into the dress and getting all the underwear on is hard work!

First I picked out a few dresses that were similar to one I saw and I liked in a magazine. (Maggie Sottero "Felicity.") But they just didn't fit me properly, I didn't feel like a bride in them. The last dress I tried on by chance in the first shop; my mom just picked it off the sales rack to let me try on something different. It was very traditional, reminded me of 4 Weddings and a Funeral and all the traditional wedding dresses you see, with the beaded bodice, chapel train I believe, and sleeves that were pretty short (kind of like cap sleeves but a bit longer - if that makes sense.) It fit me really well and was the most flattering from the first store. We put it on hold until next weekend (the longest they would hold it as it was on sale :( )

We found another shop and I tried on two dresses in there. The first was nice but didn't fit properly and the straps on it were a bit dodgy (I don't think it originally had straps and they just had just sewn them on, they were very thin spaghetti straps. The second was very WOW. Silver and white. The bodice was all silver beading with sleeves that were close between thick beaded straps and cap sleeves. The skirt was very poofy - I think it was tulle (sp?) with silver embroidery all through it and the hem of it was silver beading in a similar pattern to the neckline. The neckline was kind of a sweetheart neckline (which was similar to the good fitting one in the other store.) I liked it, felt very glamourous, but it might have been a bit too much for me.

I'm really exhausted. Couldn't take any pictures, I brought my digital camera but the batteries in it were dead, even though I thought they were charged!! ARGH.

Going back to try on the dress from the first shop next weekend so will take pics of it then, even though I probably won't get it. I don't want to get something too soon and then change my mind completely!!

Oh yes, you OBVIOUSLY have to try on more dresses sweetie. It is tiring but the more you try the more possibilities to choose among. However, you dont' have to think if waiting or not. If you really like one and it really suits you, go for it. It is like when you go for trousers: you try on many of the, compare prizes etc, buy finally ones and see others in another store that you like them too. But you have already got ones so don't have to regret about anything lol. It isn't the same I know, but it is the concept of all of that ;-)

Hi Juls
Your wedding dress shopping sounds fun - sounds like you have already seen quite a few dresses!! When I went shopping, I ended up finding my perfect dress on the first visit - I went back to order it and still loved it so I bought it - I was really worried then that I'd find another one that I liked more!!! I still love it though :-) good luck with finding your perfect dress and enjoy it! :-) Hope you're having a great weekend - take care.

Hey Juls!

Good idea about rushing into dress buying, so many people seem 2 change their minds and tastes on YD2R and regret buying their dress early, I wouldnt want that for me or you, especially when we can't afford 2 dresses :) That's a sensible decision, you will find something perfect, maybe next time try and just focus on afew dresses and go back another time for some more etc then you wont get 2 exhausted and tired.
Hugs!
Gem xx

Thanks Girls

I have been thinking and I like the dress from the first shop better, but with it being a sale item I doubt if I could even get another ordered and I don't want the one that a lot of girls have tried on. But now at least I have more of an idea of what I want :)

I agree Gem about the YD2R thing thats why I'm a bit weary, plus its very exhausting and expensive ;)

Ah ya know I wasn't going to buy my dress so early either. But when you find "the dress" you just tend to know it and it's right to buy it. I love my dress so much I know I am going to love it next year too. I can relate to figuring out you want something different than you thought you did though. My dress isn't at all what I was picturing, but it's perfect for me. The dresses I thought I wanted I just didn't feel like a bride in. Mine not only makes me feel like a bride but it makes me feel very elegant and just like a princess! Good luck with your search Juls, you'll know the perfect dress for you when you see it!
